SARALA BIRLA GROUP OF SCHOOLS

SENIOR SECONDARY CO-ED DAY CUM BOYS' RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL

Library

P. Kalyana Sundaram, Library – ‘Where pupils bloom’
The library is an essential part of any school, as necessary as a classroom or a laboratory. It acts like a second classroom away from the classroom. We pride ourselves on our vast library named in honour of Palam Kalyanasundaram, a Tamil librarian who for the past 30 years has generously donated his earning to charities and trusts in his mission to help as many as he can, and who has received the Man of the Millennium award.

P. Kalyana Sundaram Library aims to

  • Provide aid to students pursuing higher academics and develop their self-study skill.
  •  Teach responsibility through the book issues.
  • Make an environment that encourages reading and enjoying one’s own company.
  • Inculcate a sense of community among classes as the library is their second classroom.
  • Arrange workshops and talks by writers and illustrators which will inspire, enthuse and entertain boys.

Books range from childhood nostalgics like the Famous Five to the Hardy Boys. We also cater to the refined literary tastes with classics like the Poirot series, and various other collections like the works of J.R.R. Tolkein and J.K. Rowling. Other than literature, we have textbooks for all the classes as well as college level books and beyond- for the students who stay a step ahead. For books not stocked physically in our library, we have 3 Amazon Kindle e-readers for on-demand books. The air-conditioned room provides a great environment for studying and extra-curricular and personal projects alike. It provides a quiet, pedagogical environment for students to reflect and ponder things. The usual newspapers are subscribed to, along with Hindi and Marathi dailies besides weekly magazines for keeping oneself updated.
As part of the Hobby Club programme, we have a Library Club, where students can discuss and recommend reads to other people. This encourages the habit of reading, a trait that is essential to be successful and core to almost all the current global personalities.

“I can proudly say that the 9 years (2004-2013) spent in the school are the best years lived so far. The learnings are invaluable and a must for every child in order to excel outside the school. The discipline and skills you acquire from your tenure in school, cannot be put to words but can surely make you stand apart from people once you are in the real world – that is the true gift I got from BKBCE. A Birlite will always realize the learnings from school once they start interacting with the outside world. The friendships taught us the true importance of a relationship. The discipline only made us wise and taught us to operate efficiently. The overall experience made us strive for excellence and at the same time being compassionate, kind and lovable. The foundation laid in the school made us a better person today and in all our achievements.”

BKBCE is the best place imaginable for our child, and we absolutely love it!! Our son is in 10th grade and has been attending BKBCE the past four years. We have been pleased to witness his remarkable and consistent development over these last years. Simply put, he is learning to ‘THINK BIG’.
T = Talent & Time: recognizing talents and cultivating them
H = Hard Work: investing time and refusing to settle for less than the best
I = Insight: learning from everyone around us
N = Nice: being humble, respecting elders, and lifting younger peers
K = Knowledge: the key to becoming invaluable
B = Books: by reading we can learn just about anything
I = In-depth Learning: building on prior understanding by adding new information; working at core concepts until mastered
G = Growth: seeking improvement in all aspects of life

This school is a perfect blend of academics and personal development. To encourage well-roundedness BKBCE offers extracurricular activities, including a hobby course in which the teachers cultivate a hobby of the student’s choice. For our son, this has been an exceptional opportunity to improve his debate skills. Because of the time and energy the teachers at BKBCE have invested in our son, he has been able to perform in debate on a global level. His success is largely a product of the discipline and values he learned from the staff at BKBCE. In addition, the staff has been extremely generous of their free time. I’m a mother living overseas, so it’s important to me to be able to communicate with the teachers. They’ve spoken with me outside of business hours and have gone above and beyond in ensuring that I’m as informed as possible in terms of my son’s progress and needs.

I can’t give enough credit to the wholehearted, joyful, and exuberant involvement of the school principal, Dr. Sanyal, and all the teaching and non-teaching staff who have done so much for us. We are thankful to each and every one of them!
