22nd December 2017 witnessed the 20th Annual Day celebrations of the BK Birla Centre for Education. We were privileged to have Shri. Dinkar Temkar – Director of Secondary Education Pune Region, as Chief Guest.

The programme began with the lighting of lamp as an invocation to God for His divine grace. The honourable Chief Guest – Shri. Dinkar Temkar, Guest of honour – Mr. Parnab Mukherjee, revered Principal – Dr. SK Sanyal, the Dean Academics – Dr. Manohar Patil along with the School Coordinator – Mrs Kamakshi Mudaliar and Admin Head –Mr. Reghu Kumar did the honours.

Our Principal – Dr. Saibal Kumar Sanyal formally welcomed the guests and addressed the gathering with his eloquent speech. The Guest of Honour and Creative Mentor – Mr. Pranab Mukherjee also addressed the guests.

For a pious start to the grand event, a group of young Birlites presented the auspicious Saraswati Vandana as it was truly befitting, that the annual day celebrations, of this temple of knowledge, started with due tributes, to the beloved Saraswati Maa.

Moving ahead with the cultural extravaganza, young Birlites presented the ‘Earth Song’ originally sung by the legendry Michael Jackson in the album ‘History’. This was followed by a Welcome Dance in the form of Ganesh Vandana, as there wasn’t a better way to start the grandest event of the year than by paying obeisance to Lord Ganpati.

The theme chosen to be represented by the Junior School was ‘Save Earth’. This is their way of reminding everyone to wake up and take notice of all that humans have been overlooking and neglecting. Keeping up with the theme, a group of young Birlites offered their heartfelt tribute to the five elements or Panchabhuta in the form of a dance.

In the Academic Year 2016-17 students worked hard throughout the year to achieve good result and many of them managed to come out in flying colours. They went the extra mile and hence their achievements and efforts had to be recognized and appreciated. Hence BKBCE celebrated their success by giving away Proficiency Trophies for the year 2016-2017 to encourage them and to motivate and inspire the others around them. Shri Dinkar Temkar and our Principal – Dr. S.K. Sanyal gave away the prizes to the winners of the Vidya Ratan Award that is given to studious, diligent and assiduous students who secure high grades in class. BKBCE also presented awards for outstanding performance in various co-curricular activities to appreciate their hard work.

Next, the young artists of the junior section presented a stirring and impactful narrative on Pollution in form of a Hindi Play. This was followed by scintillating performances by youngsters who presented a spectacular display of dances and acts on Air-We Breathe, Swach Bharat, Save Trees, Save Water, Swachta Andolan –II and Importance of water that conveyed heart stirring messages supporting the theme of the day – ‘Save Earth’.

Save Earth doesn’t only mean saving trees, saving water or saving the environment. What about human nature that is destructive? Aren’t greed, jealousy, and being too ambitious also threats to nature? Preservation from outside and purification from inside is essential. When man is too ambitious like ‘Julius Caesar’, it causes death. Hence, the audience was taken on a journey to the Roman Empire through the enactment of the play Julius Caesar by the Bard of Avon – William Shakespeare.

Next, Miss Toshita Sharma of grade VII B presented a melodious and inspiring song from Michael Jackson’s Album ‘Dangerous’ that was released in the year 1992. The young Birlites next presented a thought – provoking message through their facial expressions and gestures in form of a mime.

Towards the end, Shri Dinkar Temkar addressed the august gathering with his kind words. He congratulated the students, staff and Principal of the B.K. Birla Centre for Education for the delightful show. Finally, the school Head Girl – Miss Vaidehi Marathe delivered the vote of thanks followed by the National Anthem as a tribute to our nation.
